The Ax Angel speaker cable consists of two 16-gauge OFC stranded conductors. It uses Nordost's patented Micro Mono-Filament technology. Developed for Nordost's reference-level hi-end audio cables, mono-filament technology has revolutionized sound transmission. Ideally, the conductors should be completely suspended in air (the best dielectric). However, in real-world conditions, this is not possible. Nordost's Mono-Filament technology is the only solution that combines the high transmission speed of air dielectric with the flexibility required for audio cable. By winding a monofilament of FEP around each conductor before encasing both in an FEP extrusion, only a small portion of the conductor comes into contact with the FEP insulation, suspending it in a virtual air dielectric. This air gap reduces insulation contact by 80% and ensures the low capacitance, resistance, and inductance required for virtually lossless audio transmission. Nordost Micro-Monofilament and advanced FEP extrusion technology provide extremely low dielectric properties, as well as extremely wide bandwidth and flawless signal integrity.
Mono-Filament is a carefully wound FEP wire that dramatically minimizes conductor-dielectric contact, creating a virtual air environment (air is a nearly perfect dielectric). It also provides excellent mechanical damping and guarantees excellent geometric accuracy. In addition, the conductor gauge is 16 AWG, which is only found at Red Dawn level.
