The power amplifier is very popular in the UK. Designed by renowned engineer John Shearne. Power 50W(8 ohms) and 80W(4 ohms)
The front panel is made of artificial blue marble. The power amplifier section uses a 250VA toroidal transformer, and careful routing of the power lines on the main PCB minimizes noise.
The Phase 3 has a push-pull output stage, which was chosen because it provides the highest sound quality. The only drawback to this configuration is a barely audible "pop" through the speakers when the device is turned on. This is the result of small DC offsets that are set up when the power is turned on. The way to deal with this sound is to use a relay in the signal path, but Shearne says he chose not to do this because it negatively affects the sound quality.
The amplifier uses high-quality parts. Once assembled, the unit is tuned and tested personally by John Shearne. DC offset and output bias adjustments are made, and the channels are precisely matched.
This amplifier is similar to tube models, but without the lack of speed that is a drawback of some tube amplifiers. The amplifier performed equally well with classical or rock material. The sound is well balanced.
