Wider than conventional standard cartridges, the rectangular aluminum body of the Audio-Technica AT33E cartridge accommodates two cylindrical coils located at an angle to each other. Thanks to this know-how, it was possible to achieve a fairly high channel separation of 30 dB, as well as increase the upper limit of the frequency range to 50,000 Hz and, as a result, obtain a cleaner and smoother sound.
Two screws are used to attach the head to the shell, the distance between which is half an inch (about 13 mm). In the upper and lower parts of the body there are inserts made of special synthetic resin, which help suppress parasitic resonances.
The Audio-Technica AT33EV uses a diamond stylus with an elliptical profile (0.2 x 0.7 microns) mounted on a beryllium cantilever that is resistant to mechanical deformation.
A special rubber-based damping material, Hanenite, is used inside the housing and at the cantilever attachment point to reduce unwanted vibrations. The transducer system uses powerful rare-earth (neodymium) magnets. The coil conductors are made of oxygen-free copper of a high degree of purification (Pure Copper Ohno Continuous Casting) with a single-crystal structure to ensure the required characteristics. Such copper wire is manufactured in a special way, undergoing a continuous process of drawing from the melt.
The output signal level of the Audio-Technica AT33E cartridge is only 0.4 mV (at 3.54 cm/sec). Therefore, it is recommended to use a phono equalizer with a high gain and an input impedance of 100 Ohms for this stylus. The optimal range of pressing force is in the range from 1.8 to 2.2 g. The weight of the model is 6.8 g, which allows it to work normally with most modern tonearms.
