The McIntosh D100 includes three devices: a digital pre-amplifier, a headphone amplifier and a high-end 8-channel DAC (32 bit / 192 kHz) that works in stereo Quad Balanced mode.
The front panel with side aluminum "ears" is made of glass and has a characteristic branded fiber optic lighting, complemented by LEDs. In its center is a narrow FL-display that shows the volume level, the selected input, the sampling rate and bit rate of the received signal, as well as other symbols in the setting mode. On the front panel there is a 6.3 mm headphone jack, an input selector knob, a mute button, a setting menu button, a high-precision volume control knob with a step of 0.1 dB and a power / standby button. The power supply, equipped with an R-core transformer, the DAC circuit and the output stages are based on separate boards in order to reduce their mutual influence on each other.
Inputs: two coaxial, a pair of optical and USB (type B), which works in asynchronous mode and receives a signal with a resolution of 32 bits / 192 kHz. To connect the USB port to a PC, you will need a driver available for download on the company's official website. No driver required for Mac computers.
Outputs: two balanced XLR and two unbalanced RCA, and one XLR and one RCA are fixed, which allows you to use the model as a separate DAC and connect it directly, for example, to an external amplifier. Powering on the McIntosh D100 and its connected components can be controlled remotely via a pair of Power Control connectors. The DATA IN input allows you to control this device using the remote control of another branded component connected to it through this input. There is an IR receiver connector, which will come in handy for multi-room installations.
